Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is allegedly transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.
A berif history of Reiki
There are many people that have helped Reiki come into the Western world, but Usui Reiki was born through Mikao Usui in Taniai Japan. He studied medicine, psychology, religion, and spiritual development. In 1922 he went on a 21-day retreat of meditation and prayers, chanting and fasting at Mount Kurama in Kyoto Japan. It has been described that he had a spiritual awakening as a powerful light entered the top of his head. An awakening of natural abilities to heal himself and others.
What is Reiki
The word Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese kanji for universal life-force energy. Rei refers to "a spiritual entity; the soul;that which possesses infinite power; an invisible and wondrous power or the source of it". Ki denotes "something unseen; atmosphere; the energy of the universe".
Reiki is a light touch (sometimes hovering) energy based modality that works on supporting the body and re-establishing a normal energy flow of ki (life force energy).
I have been practicing Reiki for over 20 years. When I was younger I did not know what Reiki was, I knew this as energy work. I have always had this knowing on how to perform this wonderful healing art but only knew it by Reiki for 10 years.
